This spicy bourbon chicken pizza recipe is the fusion of two takeout favorites, with ingredients like chicken, hoisin, and cheese combining deliciously.

Bourbon Chicken is a popular takeout dish at American Chinese spots. Although its roots are unclear, everyone agrees that the first bourbon chicken recipe came out of New Orleans, blending together Cajun and Chinese flavors into one dish that has endured throughout the years. It's sweet, spicy, and umami flavors pair perfectly with pizza, making this fusion a match made in takeout classic heaven.

Use sauces like Lee Kum Kee Hoisin Sauce and Sriracha Chili Sauce to add that blend of sweet and spicy effortlessly, while toppings like bell peppers and onions complete the entire stir-fry ensemble.

How to make it

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together Lee Kum Kee Hoisin Sauce, Panda Oyster Sauce, Sriracha Chili Sauce, Premium Soy Sauce, Seasoned Rice Vinegar, Minced Garlic, Minced Ginger, bourbon, and brown sugar, Bring to a simmer, then stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2–3 minutes until thick and glossy. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Toss chicken pieces with cornstarch. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook chicken until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes. Add ½ of the spicy bourbon sauce to the pan and toss to coat. Remove from heat.

  4. Spread the remaining spicy bourbon sauce over the dough like pizza sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, then evenly distribute the chicken, green bell peppers, and onions on top.
  5. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and browned. Remove from the oven, garnish with green onions if desired, and slice while hot.
