Everything you need to know for making an easy dumpling recipe at home to celebrate New Years, including a simple dipping sauce!
Ringing in the New Year is best done by getting together with family or friends and making a large batch of dumplings. These are crucial to any New Year celebration because eating dumplings in the New Year symbolizes wishes for wealth and prosperity.
Pork and cabbage is one of the most popular flavors for the dumpling filling, and this version packs a lot of flavor thanks to ingredients crucial to dumplings, like Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce. For dipping or drizzling, chili crisp oils like our Chiu Chow Style Chili Crisp Oil make for an easy tabletop condiment to enjoy!
*NOTE: Cooking Time in this recipe is per batch, which depends on the size of your pan. Approximate 10-12 dumplings per batch, or about 5 batches in total for the amount of dumplings in this recipe.*
Make the Filling:
In a large bowl, mix the ground pork, cabbage, green onions, Lee Kum Kee Minced Garlic, Lee Kum Kee Minced Ginger, Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Oyster Flavored Sauce, Lee Kum Kee Premium Soy Sauce, Lee Kum Kee Premium Dark Soy Sauce, salt, and white pepper. Stir until the mixture becomes sticky and cohesive.
Create a dumpling table with:
Dumpling wrappers in the center, a big bowl of filling, water bowls for sealing, trays lined with parchment, and small bowls of flour or cornstarch to prevent sticking
Fold the Dumplings:
Place a wrapper in your palm. Add 1 heaping teaspoon of filling to the center. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edge of the wrapper. Fold into a half-moon and pinch the top closed. Add pleats or keep it simple — up to the dumpling artist!
Place on a floured tray and keep going until the filling is gone.
Pan-Fry the Dumplings (Potsticker Style):
Heat 1–2 Tbsp oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Add dumplings in a single layer. Let the bottoms crisp for 2–3 minutes. Add ¼ cup water and cover immediately to steam. Cook 5–6 minutes until the water evaporates and dumplings are cooked through. Remove and repeat with remaining batches.
Note: (You can also boil or steam for a lighter version.)
Serve:
Place warm dumplings on a large platter. Drizzle generously with Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Style Chili Crisp Oil and finish with chopped green onions and a small dish of Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Style Chili Crisp Oil for dipping.
