With this gluten free hoisin meatballs recipe by Chef Charles Chen, you'll be ready for any holiday party occasion!

These meatballs are the perfect balance of wellness and complex layered flavors, which Chef Charles specializes in as seen in this Sesame Lettuce Wraps recipe. With a base of ground turkey for lean protein, the flavor comes from a variety of Lee Kum Kee gluten-free sauces, all of which maximize umami, sweet, and salty flavors to complement the turkey. Sweetness comes from Gluten-Free Hoisin Sauce, while a balance of umami, salty, and aromatic notes come from Gluten-Free Oyster Sauce (Panda Brand Green Label Oyster Sauce) and Gluten Free Soy Sauce.

The sauces being gluten-free makes the meatballs more allergy friendly, perfect for any holiday party or potluck occasion. Alternatively, you can meal prep them at home and serve alongside rice and veggies!

How to make it

  1. Heat oven to 425°F (218ºC) and coat a baking sheet with nonstick spray.

  2. Mix together the meatball ingredients and the seasoning ingredients in a large bowl. Grab about 1 1/2 oz. (about two heaping tablespoons) of the mixture, shape into a meatball, and add to the baking tray. Repeat for the rest of the meatball mix; this should make about 20 meatballs in total.
  3. Bake meatballs until browned and the internal temperature reaches 165ºF (74ºC), about 15–20 minutes.

  4. While the meatballs bake, whisk together all of the sauce mix ingredients in a separate large bowl. Once the meatballs are done and cooled slightly, add to the bowl and toss gently to coat the meatballs.
  5. Combine fried shallots, panko and sesame seeds. Sprinkle the mixture, cilantro and scallions over meatballs before serving.
