What You Will Need

Made with
Lee Kum Kee products

How to make it

  1. To make the rice, rinse and drain the rice with cold water about 3-4 times until the water runs mostly clear. Add the rice and water to a pot. Let it soak for 1 hour. Cover the pot with a lid and bring it to a boil over medium high heat. Lower the heat so that it is simmering and cook for 20 minutes until all of the water has been absorbed. Remove the pot from the heat and let the rice stand for 15 minutes. Remove the lid and fluff the rice. Set it aside for later.
  2. To make the curry, heat a pot over medium heat. Add in the peanut oil and then the onion. Cook until the onion turns translucent. Then add in the garlic, Lee Kum Kee Minced Ginger, and apple. Cook for about 2 minutes. Add in the flour. Mix and cook for 1 minute. Add in the carrots, broccoli, garam masala, curry powder, and tomato paste. Mix until combined then pour in the red wine. Bring the mixture to a boil then add in the sugar, Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Cooking Soy Sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil again then lower the heat so that it is simmering. Cover the pot with a lid and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and cook for another 30 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, mix in the corn and peas. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. To make the tamago, beat the eggs together then mix in the dashi, sugar, mirin, and Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Cooking Soy Sauce.
  4. Heat a small pan over medium heat. Blot a paper towel with vegetable oil then wipe the greased towel onto the pan. Pour in half of the egg mixture. Lightly scramble the eggs in the first 30 seconds then cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 2 minutes or until all of the egg on top is cooked. Remove the egg from the pan then repeat this process to cook the remaining egg mixture.
  5. To assemble the bento box, spoon some of the curry into the serving dish. Form the rice into various sized balls to make the head, ears, arms, and feet for the bears. Cut shapes out of the nori to make the eyes and nose. Trim the tamago to fit the shape of the serving dish. Place all of the components together and enjoy!
