No one knows exactly how bang bang chicken got its memorable name. Some people think it’s due to the spicy, flavorful kick of the sauce, while others say it’s from the sound of the chef’s cleaver as it dices up the chicken. Whatever the origin, there’s no denying that bang bang chicken skewers are delicious.

While not everyone uses the same ingredients in their bang bang sauces, there’s always a blend of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors. Creaminess is key, too, so be sure you’ve got plenty of Lee Kum Kee Sriracha Mayo on hand for this bang bang chicken skewers recipe.

How to make it

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and olive oil. Toss to evenly coat. Working with one skewer at a time, thread 4-5 chicken cubes onto each.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the sauce mix ingredients to make the bang bang sauce.
  3. Pour half of the sauce into a separate bowl and set aside to use after the chicken has been cooked. Use the remainder of the sauce to brush evenly over the chicken.
  4. Add the skewers to the basket of your air fryer in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to work in batches.
  5. Air fry at 400°F for 11-12 minutes, flipping halfway. The chicken is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. Transfer the skewers to a plate and drizzle or brush with the reserved sauce. Garnish the bang bang chicken skewers with green onions. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
