Dumplings and pizza come together in this unique pizza recipe, with shu mai serving as the flavor base for which the entire pizza is built around!

Shu mai do come in many different varieties, although the most common options are pork, shrimp, crab, or some combination of these proteins. Infused with deep umami flavor, they serve as a flavorful inspiration on which the rest of this pizza can be constructed.

Inspired a bit by the viral spicy mala cream sauce, this recipe goes in a more umami-centric direction, mixing a creamy pizza sauce base with Lee Kum Kee Chili Crisp Original. This adds rich garlic and shallot flavors, along with a balanced kick of heat, that works perfectly with the shumai as well as the pizza base. Give this unique fusion a try - it will be a crowd pleaser for sure!

How to make it

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F. Lightly grease a baking sheet or pizza stone. Partially steam the shumai according to package directions (roughly half the cooking time) and set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the Lee Kum Kee Minced Garlic and cook for 30 seconds, until fragrant. Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and Lee Kum Kee Chili Crisp Original. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until slightly thickened.
  3. Stretch the pizza dough into a 12-inch round and place on the prepared baking sheet or pizza stone. Brush the edges lightly with olive oil.

  4. Spread the spicy cream sauce evenly over the dough and top with the mozzarella cheese. Arrange the partially steamed shumai over the pizza. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  5. Drizzle with additional Lee Kum Kee Chili Crisp Original and garnish with green onions before serving.
